Our third-grade class decided to participate in Bonnie's Cabbage National 3rd grade Cabbage Growing Challenge this school year. This program provides cabbage plants and science curriculum to third graders across the nation with a chance to win scholarship monies. Unfortunately, Bonnie's Cabbage could not fulfill their commitment this year due to COVID but we decide to plant anyway!
Third graders planted cabbage, broccoli, and romaine and will participate in an aligned and tailored curriculum at our hands-on garden. They will be responsible for monitoring and care of their individual plants as well as the school salad garden. They continue to learn where their food comes from, the many miles our produce travels to get to our stores, and each student will create their own recipe with the plant they grow. This is a wonderful learning opportunity and is the start of great things to come with our community garden!
